Day 1 Australia - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Today, fly from Australia to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Arrive at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, meet with our representative, and board the coach for the one-hour journey to Kuala Lumpur city Centre.

Kuala Lumpur, or commonly known as KL, is the capital and largest city in Malaysia. The etymology of Kuala Lumpur means “the muddy confluence”; “Kuala” is the point where the rivers join together or an estuary, and “Lumpur” means mud. Within the suggestion on the name Kuala Lumpur was generated, record that the name was given by the tin-miners, looking for a new place to extract the precious metal during the early 1800’s, and apparently starting a settlement were today lays Masjid Jamek Mosque, on the confluence of the river Klang and Gombak. Today Kuala Lumpur is the Cultural, Financial and Economic centre of Malaysia with its modern glass-and-steel skyline dominated by the Petronas Twin Towers and the Exchange 106, however, still maintaining “alive” its colonial-era landmarks around Chinatown and Dataran Merdeka (Independence Square). A vibrant mix in the city is generated by the very cosmopolitan population; Malays, Chinese, Indians, with a growing population of foreign workers and also expatriates. The well-balanced community is also visible in the mix of temples, mosques and churches. Not to be forgotten, the culinary feast available around the clock, cuisine crafted by a very spicy blend of the three main cultures. A “Try a Nasi Lemak” must be on the top of your “things to do” while in KL!

Please note: due to flight scheduling some flights may depart day 0. Affected customers must be at the airport the night before. Flight times will be indicated on your final documentation which you will receive around 6 weeks prior to departure.

Day 2 Kuala Lumpur

In the morning, travel to the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur, and start the daily tour with the visit to the Batu Caves. Batu Caves attracts thousands of worshippers and tourists, especially during the annual Hindu festival, Thaipusam. A limestone outcrop located just north of Kuala Lumpur, Batu Caves has three main caves featuring temples and Hindu shrines. Its main attraction is the large statue of the Hindu God at the entrance, besides a steep 272 climb up its steps to finally view the stunning skyline of the city centre. Monkeys frolic around the caves, and it is a popular spot for rock climbing enthusiasts. Paintings and scenes of Hindu Gods can also be seen in the Ramayana Cave. After the visit to the caves, journey back to City Centre, and continue the tour with a visit to Kuala Lumpur heritage sites, the Sri Mahamariamman Temple, a stroll around Chinatown (and its wet market time permitting) and Independence Square with the colonial buildings and Jamek Mosque. After the tour, transfer back to the hotel the rest of the day is free at leisure.

With a cool climate that can reach 15 degrees the area is vibrant with lush valleys, diverse ecosystems, a sea of tea plantations and strawberry fields (forever) making it the perfect and popular destination to delve deep into nature and find some genuine relaxation. With many old-fashioned colonial buildings left behind from another age that have been converted and renovated into beautiful homestays and hotels where visitors can truly enjoy the comforts of the Highlands while sipping on tea that’s sourced straight from fields. It’s safe to say that a trip to the highlands will be unforgettable for any type of traveller that comes to visit. Featuring some of the finest and in some cases most mysterious colonial architecture such Kellie's Castle, a half-finished mansion owned by William Kellie Smith until his untimely death, it was reclaimed from the jungles and is now an exciting destination with secret passageways and supernatural stories that deepen the mystery. Compare ancient and modern wall art by visiting Tambun Cave where paintings dating back up to 5000 years can be seen, then head to Mural Lane in the city to enjoy the modern murals made by local artists. Also known as a secret haven for foodies, Ipoh is the lesser known food capital of Malaysia where you can find local delicacies whose recipes have been unchanged for decades. At the scheduled time, board the little ferry that will take you across the lake to the conservation facilities. As you alight onto the jetty, keep a lookout high among the trees, you may spot an orangutan or two, swinging from tree to tree, maybe even taking a nap. Walk on the boardwalk, that will take you to the education centre, where you learn amazing facts about this intelligent primate. Continue onto the island trail, where you will be taken through a 100-metre steel walkthrough 'cage tunnel' to come up close and personal with these primates. In a twist, you will be enclosed in a 'cage' as you observe the orangutans roaming free in their natural habitats. At the end of the timed visit, aboard the ferry for your ride to the main jetty, and continue your travel arrangements.

A 90 day tourist visa will generally be granted upon arrival into Malaysia if travelling on an Australian Passport.
Visa rules may have changed since COVID-19. Check with the nearest embassy, consulate or immigration department of the destination you're entering.
Please note: Passengers who are not Australian citizens must check with the respective consulate or visa agency to determine what their visa requirements are and what personal identification is required. It is also important to note, some areas of employment such as journalism, government authorities and charity organisations may have additional restrictions in applying for Visas. This may in turn affect the type of application required.

Supplier Fees

In the event the Qantas Tour you have purchased is unable to proceed, and/or a travel Supplier is unable to fulfil the Qantas Tour due to external circumstances (Limitation of Liability e.g. a Force Majeure event), there may be a fee or amount of money that is withheld by our Suppliers and is unrecoverable. This may be due to non-refundable airline tickets, cancellation penalties with cruise cabins or unrecoverable payments with our land/accommodation partners. If refunds are not available from Suppliers, we will endeavour to obtain a travel credit on the best terms available and communicate these outcomes to you. In the event we are unable to obtain a refund or travel service credit, or part thereof, this cost is passed on to the customer as a Supplier Fee.
