The main location of the Bratislava Christmas Markets is located in Main Square, also known as Hlavnom námestí. Here, you’ll find dozens of cozy stalls selling Slovakian gifts and tasty specialties, along with a bright tree in the corner and a stage for various performances. The Christmas market at Bratislava Castle is a relative newcomer to the Bratislava Christmas Market scene, but its magical location in one of the city’s best known landmarks more than makes up for it. Plus, it has a view to die for!

Today be transferred to the embarkation terminal to board the six-night Danube River Christmas cruise on the brand-new 5-star ‘MS Amadeus Star’. Boarding will take place from 16:00 today. You will have plenty of time to explore the festively decorated Amadeus ship, followed by a Welcome Cocktail with the onboard cruise management. Thereafter, you can savour your first culinary delights on board at a stylish welcome dinner, during which the chef will put you in an appropriately celebratory mood for the upcoming winter trip. There is much to see in Vienna, Austria’s capital city. Its artistic and intellectual legacy was shaped by residents including Mozart, Beethoven and Sigmund Freud. The city is also known for its imperial palaces, including Schonbrunn, the Habsburgs’ summer residence. In the Museumsquartier district, historic and contemporary buildings display work by Egon Schiele, Gustav Klimt and other artists. An optional morning city tour of Vienna (not included) will take you to the most beautiful sights and elegant buildings in Vienna.
Alternatively enjoy a visit to the magnificent Schönbrunn Palace, where an atmospheric Christmas market awaits you. Here, the pervasive pre-Christmas atmosphere and the aromas of lebkuchen (gingerbread) and roasted almonds combine in an unforgettable, authentic Advent experience. Wake up this morning to a wonderful view of one of the most beautiful landscape regions in Austria – the Wachau before disembarking the ship at 08:30.
Emmersdorf is the starting point for a trip (optional tour - not included) through this wintery region, which will include a visit to Melk Abbey, an Austrian Benedictine abbey and one of the world’s most famous monastic sites. The impressive Baroque abbey was built between 1702 and 1736. The abbey’s church and the impressive library with countless medieval manuscripts and frescos are particularly noteworthy. A guided tour takes you through the abbot’s chambers, along the imperator’s walk, through the marble hall, the balconies and the library.
Continue by coach to Dürnstein, one of the best-known wine villages in the Wachau. Situated in the heart of the magnificent valley, on the banks of the mighty river Danube, the charming town offers the unique combination of breathtaking scenery, traditional architecture and places of historic interest. A walk through the town allows you to appreciate its beauty before returning to the ship to enjoy a mug of hot mulled wine at the end of the tour. For those who take part in the optional excursion will rejoin the ship in Weißenkirchen.
The vessel will continue its journey to Passau, Austria at 14:00.

Passau, a German city on the Austrian border, lies at the confluence of the Danube, Inn and Ilz rivers, and is known as the ‘Three Rivers City’. From 08:30 to 16:00, explore this town overlooked by the Veste Oberhaus, a 13th century hilltop fortress housing a city museum and observation tower. The old town below is known for its baroque architecture, including St. Stephen’s Cathedral, which features distinctive onion-domed towers and an organ with 17,974 pipes.
Make a visit to the beautiful Christmas Market of Passau, and enjoy passing through the charming old quarters and decorated city centre of Passau.

This morning the ship docks at one of Germany’s most well preserved medieval cities at 09:00 until 21:00. Regensburg is located on the most northern point of the Danube River and is known for its UNESCO world heritage architecture from many different centuries. The 13th century Regensburg Cathedral, a twin-spired Gothic landmark, is home to the Regensburger Domspatzen choir, just one of the many highlights of this city.
Enjoy the beautiful and well known Christmas Market of Regensburg. The stalls and booths around the 500-year-old Neupfarr Church and in front of the classical columns of the former city guardhouse sell a glittering range of Christmas decorations, traditional Nativity crib scenes with carved figures, children’s toys and other very practical gifts. Alongside these stands with their works of art, other booths invite visitors to sample gingerbread and Christmas cookies and other mouth watering goodies.

After lunch, you arrive in the Bavarian town of Roth at 13:00, where the optional city tour of Nuremberg departs from. You have the option of taking the tour or jumping back on board to cruise from Roth at 13:30 for a 17:00 arrival in Nuremberg.
On the optional Nuremberg tour, explore the romantic Christmas market and the most significant monuments and sights. The enticing smells of mulled wine and rum punch, roasted almonds, Nuremberg bratwurst and gingerbread fill the air. The ‘little town of wood and cloth’ will shine in the heart of Nuremberg’s Old Town and turn it into “Christmas City”. More than 180 market stands – all decorated for Christmas with fresh greens and lights – invite you to enjoy traditional Christmas ornaments of all shapes and sizes; the local gold-foil angel; ‘Zwetschgenmännla’ made of prunes; toys and games; and delicious holiday treats to eat and drink. Experience this one-of-a-kind atmosphere and enjoy the magic of the Christmas Market! In the early evening, return to your ship, which will be docked overnight in Nuremberg.

Some unique products that are available at the markets are Christmas ornaments, crafts, holiday decorations and traditional Czech Christmas cookies. Have the opportunity to taste some traditional Czech foods that are made fresh right in front of you. Hot wine (svařené víno or svařák), grog, and warm honey liquor called medovina come in handy in the cold weather (not included). Czech Christmas carols will also add to the festive atmosphere. If you decide to stay out after dark, you will be able to see the markets lit up beautifully by a terrific assortment of Christmas lights.

The AMADEUS STAR, a masterpiece of engineering and ship design, joined the fleet in 2019. The ship offers a total of 70 spacious deluxe cabins and 12 AMADEUS Suites. Similar to our other ships, the AMADEUS STAR cabins on the Mozart and Strauss Deck also feature lowerable panoramic windows which extend across the entire cabin front and have been specially designed for the AMADEUS ships. TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER
Tour Guide:
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction in which he or she is guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves the group at the end of the tour, they do not travel with the group.
Tour Leader:
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides in each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village, and offer information on the place visited on the bus, however, they are not required to have specific knowledge on art, architecture, or history. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and if caught doing so, can be fined.
Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when particularly required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.
CLIMATE & AVERAGE TEMPERATURES
Rhine River:
Average temperatures in Rhine Valley vary greatly. Considering humidity, temperatures feel cold for about half of the year and otherwise nice with a chance of rain or snow throughout most of the year. Weather is cold this time of year in Rhine Valley, the average high during this season is between 14.4°C and 10°C. On average, it rains or snows a fair amount: 6 to 7 times per month.
Danube River:
Average temperatures in the Danube area vary greatly. Considering humidity, temperatures feel cold for about half of the year and otherwise nice with a chance of rain or snow throughout most of the year. Weather is cold this time of year, the average high during this season is between 4°C and 8°C.

Passport Validity:

You will be responsible for all your personal belongings whilst on the tour. With regards to luggage, you must carry your own luggage from the coach to the hotel room and back to the coach. The driver will assist with the uploading and off-loading of the luggage from the coach.

Fitness Level Required / Mobility:
Our vehicles are not equipped with wheelchair access, so, unfortunately, our tours are currently not suitable for wheelchair users and those less mobile.
Please note: a general level of fitness will be required. If you have any concerns please consult your healthcare provider prior to purchase/travel.
Gratuities / Tipping:
Land
- Gratuities (tips) are not included in the tour price for services of the tour leader (when available) and driver throughout the tour. The recommended tip is €5 Euro per person per day this covers the guide/leader and the driver, which will be collected whilst on tour.
- Tipping for all services provided on tour is always a matter of personal discretion, however please be aware that tipping is considered by many locals to be a part of their normal remuneration and they may approach you for payment and there is no need to be intimidated by the request.
Cruise
Gratuities (tips) are not included in the tour price for the services of the cruise staff throughout the cruise component of this tour. Amadeus River Cruises is an internationally registered company & operates to US & European standards, both of which have an economy driven by a gratuities culture. Gratuities are expected on your cruise and will be charged to your onboard account at $14 USD per person per day. If you have any questions in regards to the gratuities on your cruise please speak to the guest services staff onboard the ship.
Sightseeing:
Please note: In the event entrance to a site is affected by changes in operating hours or public holiday closures, your itinerary where possible, will be adjusted or similar activity will be offered in its place (subject to availability).
Shopping :
Shopping overseas can be a daunting and confusing experience, especially when there is a language barrier. Please be very cautious when foreign currencies and prices are involved. If paying by credit card, please pay close attention to the amount you are being charged and keep all of your receipts.
Do not make any purchases you are not comfortable with or feel pressured into. If you are uncertain or need assistance with the language barrier, please seek assistance from your Tour Guide/Leader.

A tourist visa is not required for Europe for stays up to 90 days if travelling on an Australian passport.

Please note: Passengers who are not Australian citizens must check with the respective consulate or visa agency to determine what their visa requirements are and what personal identification is required. It is also important to note, some areas of employment such as journalism, government authorities and charity organisations may have additional restrictions in applying for Visas. This may in turn affect the type of application required.
Voluntary Changes
This includes booking changes requested by you, including but not limited to those changes requiring an airline ticket or a Purchase Confirmation reissue.

Supplier Fees
In the event the Qantas Tour you have purchased is unable to proceed, and/or a travel Supplier is unable to fulfil the Qantas Tour due to external circumstances (Limitation of Liability e.g. a Force Majeure event), there may be a fee or amount of money that is withheld by our Suppliers and is unrecoverable. This may be due to non-refundable airline tickets, cancellation penalties with cruise cabins or unrecoverable payments with our land/accommodation partners. If refunds are not available from Suppliers, we will endeavour to obtain a travel credit on the best terms available and communicate these outcomes to you. In the event we are unable to obtain a refund or travel service credit, or part thereof, this cost is passed on to the customer as a Supplier Fee.
You must be a Qantas Frequent Flyer member to earn points. A joining fee may apply. Membership and points are subject to the Qantas Frequent Flyer program terms and conditions.
To earn Qantas Points with Qantas Tours, Members will be required to provide a valid Frequent Flyer number and last name at checkout. Only the lead traveller, the primary contact for the booking, will earn 3 Qantas Points per AU$1 spent (including GST) on eligible holiday packages. Qantas Points will not be earned and cannot be redeemed on any amounts payable directly to the hotel. Conditions apply. Qantas Points will be credited to a member's account up to 8 weeks after tour completion. Qantas Points will not be earned on cancelled bookings.
In addition to the 3 Qantas Points per AU$1 spent, each Frequent Flyer member who enters their Qantas Frequent Flyer number into the booking will also earn Status Credits and Qantas Points on the flight component of the package.
