Day 4 Warsaw – Bialystok, Poland - Vilnius, Lithuania

Early this morning, start this 500 Km-day by leaving Warsaw and travel onwards to Vilnius, Lithuania. Along the way enjoy a city tour in Bialystok. Bialystok is the biggest city in the north-eastern part of Poland and situated close to the border with Belarus. During the city tour you will see Branicki Palace – the former residence of the Branicki family who owned most of Bialystok in the 18th century. You will also visit the Main Market and town hall, Orthodox Church of St Nicholas built in the 19th century, the Jewish Cemetery and the Church of St Roch and Gothic Cathedral of Virgin Mary with monuments of Pope John Paul II and Father Jerzy Popieluszko in front of it. After the tour you will continue driving onwards to Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania and on arrival you will check in and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure.

There is a dreamy quality to Vilnius, especially in the golden glow of a midsummer evening. Lithuania's capital has an Old Town of rare authenticity: marvellously intact, its pebbly streets are lined with weather-worn period buildings that hide cafes, boutiques and dainty guesthouses. Though a capital city, Vilnius feels much like an overgrown village. It's carpeted with green spaces, which cover around 40% of its area, and studded with venerable Catholic and Orthodox church spires. But this is no Eastern European antique: artists, punks and a self-declared micronation keep Vilnius cutting-edge.

Overnight: Railway Hotel, Vilnius or similar

Meals included: Breakfast

Day 5 Vilnius Walking City Tour

This morning, enjoy breakfast at the hotel before departing on a walking city tour of Vilnius. Vilnius is known for its more than 1200 medieval buildings and 48 churches. You will be guided through impressive Gothic and Baroque churches, the Cathedral square, Presidential Palace, Vilnius University and Jewish Quarter. You will pass through the Gates of Dawn and City Gate remaining from medieval fortifications. Walk the narrow streets that turn into an open air gallery called Artworks on Literatu Street. Afterwards, you will visit one of the quirkiest and most vibrant areas of Vilnius – Uzupis Republic. It’s home to bohemian people who declared their independence and have their own constitution – take your passport to get a stamp! Get your cameras ready to capture some panoramic views of Vilnius as well as the architecture and bizarre art pieces.

Finish the tour with a visit to the Fabijoniskes district. Fabijoniskes was one of the “Chernobyl” HBO mini-series filming locations that was built around the period of the actual Chernobyl catastrophe in the late 1980s. During the tour, you will walk around the district learning about the Soviet history as well as nowadays life of the area and will have an opportunity to experience the fictional Pripyat that came to life in the Fabijoniskes district. Enjoy the afternoon free at leisure or alternatively enjoy an optional half-day trip to the nearby town of Trakai. This evening you will have the option to enjoy a Lithuanian traditional dinner with afolklore show.

Optional Activity: Half Day Trip to Trakai - $100 per person
Trakai is famous for its Karaim community, who have been living here since the 14th century and who make "kibinai" - the best local pastries in the area. You will be able to take part in this unique culture by making kybyn yourself and tasting the culinary traditions. Continue with a visit to Trakai Castle. It’s one of the most picturesque castles of Europe that lies between a few lakes on a tiny island. Built in the XIV century by the grand dukes of Lithuania, the castle reminds you of the greatest battles and history to this date. Cross a wooden bridge and see the castle from inside and outside and hear the story of the Lithuanian royalties that resided there. Finish the day back in Vilnius where you may enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure.

Optional Activity: National Dinner with Folk Show in Vilnius - $80 per person
You will be invited to taste traditional Lithuanian delicacies, surprise yourself with new tastes, to indulge in a variety of local drinks, play the drums or sing a part in a live folk music performance and get your legs loose in traditional dancing.

Day 7 Vilnius – Kaunas Sightseeing Tour – Klaipeda

This morning, travel onwards to the Lithuanian seaside in this 320 Km-day. The first stop will be Kaunas, a city situated in the centre of Lithuania, which is famous for modernist interwar architecture, intriguing history and natural beauty. Kaunas will reveal how it felt to be in independent Lithuania between two World Wars, and how this vibrant city lives today. You will start with a Castle and the Old Town, remembering medieval days and then walk your way to the Centre, where the modern history of Kaunas starts. You will visit Laisves Alley, admire its old and modern architecture and find out why it was selected as a candidate to be included in the UNESCO world's heritage list.

In the afternoon, continue driving to Klaipeda, Lithuania's only port city. Discover the town where German roots meet Lithuanian traditions and walk through the compact, cobblestoned Old Town to learn about its history and past as once upon a time this was a large and prosperous commercial sea port.

Day 8 Curonian Spit Peninsula Day Trip

This morning, prepare to see picturesque sand dunes, forests and tiny resort towns that used to be fishermen villages, as you head out to explore the narrow Curonian Spit Peninsula on the other side of the lagoon. Today you will experience the full authenticity of this tiny, yet beautiful part of Lithuania. Take a quick ferry ride from Klaipeda to the peninsula with the first stop being the Hill of Witches. Located in the charming village of Juodkrante, on the Curonian Spit, the Hill of Witches (Raganu Kalnas in Lithuanian) is a natural forested area filled with nearly 100 carved wooden sculptures. The original sculptures were mostly carved (further sculptures have been added since) and illustrate Lithuanian folk tales.

Afterwards you will continue to the most western town of Lithuania, Nida. Here you will stop for a breathtaking panorama from the Parnidis dune and enjoy a stroll by the beautiful lagoon. Nida is right on the border of Lithuania and the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad Oblast. Finish the day back in Klaipeda where you may enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure.

Day 9 Klaipeda - Palanga - Plateliai - Samogitia

Definitely a highlight of the day will be a visit to Palanga Amber Museum, where you will admire the extensive botanical gardens at the restored 19th-century Tiškevičiai Palace. The Baltic Sea coast has been a source of Eurasian amber trade since prehistoric times, so there is an impressive collection of 28,000 pieces on display containing inclusions of insects, spiders, or plants. Travel from Palanga to Zemaitija National Park. Žemaitija National Park is known as the most mystical national park in Lithuania. The park is covered with fir forests which are populated by a huge number of protected plant and animal species; remains of ice-age plants were also found here. Here you may see protected species of birds such as the hazel grouse, corncrake and the whooper swan. The park’s jewel is the biggest and deepest lake in Žemaitija, the Lake Plateliai with its seven islands.

In Samogitia, the former Cold War Nuclear Missile Base is the only museum of such kind in Europe. You will have a guided tour in the museum and you will get a unique chance to see the shaft where the Soviets kept missiles with nuclear warheads ready to launch and start another world war.

In Plateliai, you will visit a local homestead where the hosts will prepare a hearty dinner, giving you a taste of Samogitian tradition and customs.

The national park is a natural wonder inhabited by thousands of migrating birds and was once a popular resort for medical tourism and healthy bathing in sulfuric water and sludge. While the times of healthy bathing are long gone, tourists come here to soak in the unique beauty of the region and explore the ruins of a bygone era. Other important information

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER
Tour Guide:
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on the history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction where they are guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves it at the end of the tour; they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader:
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides at each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village and offer information on the place visited on the bus. However, they are not required to have specific art, architecture, or historical knowledge. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and, if caught doing so, can be fined.
Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.

CLIMATE & AVERAGE TEMPERATURES
Northern Europe:
March in Europe begins the springtime travel season. Easter markets, springtime festivals, landscaped old towns, and traditional farewell rituals to winter can be enjoyed during this hopeful, colourful month. While winter temperatures may linger, particularly, this time of year is good for those who prefer lower prices and thinner crowds
May is known for mild temperatures that are ideal for sightseeing, with highs climbing to 21 degrees, however it is still a good idea to bring a lightweight rain coat.
August is the middle of Summer, so expect hot and humid days with temperatures averaging 26 degrees.
October in Europe brings an array of brilliant Autumn Colours. Expect a few crisp mornings, and be prepared to dress in layers.

FLIGHTS
Seat Selection & Frequent Flyer Points:
At Qantas Tours, we do not arrange seat selection. It is essential to highlight that some airlines do not allow pre-selected seats. We strongly suggest you contact the airline directly with seating allocation requirements and/or arrive at the airport earlier to arrange your seating. While we do not add frequent flyer member details to bookings, you can do this directly with the airline once you have your flight information.

Passport Validity:
Customers must provide valid passport details either at the time of purchase or no later than 45 days before the departure date. Failure to do so may result in the cancellation of the booking. Customers will be responsible for any costs and fees incurred in this instance.

COACH TOUR
Meals:
20 meals in total are included in the package. For meals not included, the tour leader (when available) will offer assistance with reservations, suggestions and directions to local restaurants. It is your responsibility to notify Qantas Tours of any dietary requests/requirements. Please note: We will do our best to meet your requests/requirements; however, we cannot guarantee that we will always be able to.

Luggage:
You will be responsible for all your personal belongings whilst on tour. You must carry your own luggage from the vehicle to the hotel room and back to the vehicle. The driver will assist with the uploading and unloading of bags from the vehicle.

OTHER
Mobility:
If you would love to travel with Qantas Tours and require wheelchair access please contact our friendly sales and service team to inquire on your behalf.

Fitness Level Required:
An easy level of fitness will be required.

Please note: If you have any concerns please consult your healthcare provider prior to purchase/travel.

Gratuities / Tipping:
Land
Gratuities (tips) are not included for the services of the tour leader (when available) and driver throughout the tour. The recommended tip is €6 per person per day. This covers the guide/leader and the driver and will be collected on tour.
Please note: Tipping for services provided is always a matter of personal discretion; however, please be aware that many locals consider tipping part of their normal remuneration, and they may approach you for payment; there's no need to be intimidated by the request.

Sightseeing:
Please note: If entrance to a site is affected by changes in operating hours or public holiday closures, your itinerary, where possible, may be adjusted, or a similar activity will be offered in its place (subject to availability).

Shopping:
Shopping overseas can be a daunting and confusing experience, especially when there is a language barrier. Please be very cautious when foreign currencies and prices are involved. If paying by credit card, please pay close attention to the amount you are being charged and keep all your receipts.
Do not make any purchases you are not comfortable with or feel pressured into. If you are uncertain or need assistance with the language barrier, please seek assistance from your Tour Guide/Leader.
Please refer to our Terms and Conditions regarding shopping for further information.
Visas

A tourist visa is not required in Europe for stays of up to 90 days if travelling on an Australian passport.
Important:
• Please start arranging your visa three weeks before departure to account for any delays due to consulate operating hours.
• Visa rules may have changed since Covid-19. Some countries and airlines may require you to obtain an additional visa before arrival. Please check with the nearest embassy, consulate or immigration department of the destination you're entering.
Please note:
• Passengers who are not Australian citizens must also check with the respective consulate or visa agency to determine what their visa requirements are and what personal identification is required.
• It is also important to note that some areas of employment, such as journalism, government authorities and charity organisations, may have additional restrictions in applying for Visas. This may, in turn, affect the type of application required.
