Overview

Rooted in ancient cultures and amazing history, Mexico is a tapestry of wonders waiting to be discovered in this extraordinary 18-day journey, immersing in the country's rich heritage and vibrant experiences.

First, tour Mexico City. The cosmopolitan metropolis’ founding comes from an Aztec prophecy that foretold they would settle where they saw an eagle eating a snake atop a prickly pear cactus. Spanish conquistadors later established Mexico City in that same location. Head south to Xochimilco for a delightful boat ride through the vibrant floating gardens on a traditionally multicoloured gondola. Then venture to the sprawling archaeological complex of Teotihuacan. Marvel at the awe-inspiring pyramids of the Moon and the Sun. The origins of Teotihuacan remain shrouded in mystery, as the Aztecs encountered the city abandoned in the 1400s and bestowed it with its present name. Journey to Oaxaca, a state renowned for its archaeological treasures. Nearby, in the charming town of Santa María del Tule, stands an ancient cypress tree believed to be 2000-years-old, and the oldest living tree in Mexico. Visit the remarkable Sumidero Canyon, a narrow and deep gorge of awe-inspiring beauty that is sure to leave a lasting impression.

Prepare to be mesmerised by the enchanting Agua Azul and Misol-Ha waterfalls, where crystal blue waters cascade in a breathtaking display against lush green landscapes. Palenque awaits next, nestled within the mystical jungles of Chiapas. Abandoned by the Maya people long before the Spaniards arrived, Palenque invites you to unravel its secrets and marvel at its architectural splendour. Experience the colonial charm of Izamal, the Yellow City of the Yucatan Peninsula, where visitors discover architectural gems that transport you to a bygone era. From there, journey to Chichen Itza. Explore its magnificent ruins, including the iconic El Castillo pyramid dedicated to the feathered snake god Quetzalcoatl.

Conclude your remarkable journey in Cancun, a popular beach destination surrounded by the azure waters of the Caribbean Sea. Indulge in the allure of this tropical paradise, savouring the vibrant atmosphere, swim-up bars, and an array of outdoor activities.

With return international airfares, 15 nights of quality hotel accommodation, daily breakfast and much more, immerse yourself in Mexico’s heritage, embrace its natural beauty, and create cherished memories of a land where history and culture come alive.

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER

Tour Guide:
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on the history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction where they are guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves it at the end of the tour; they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader:
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides at each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village and offer information on the place visited on the bus. However, they are not required to have specific art, architecture, or historical knowledge. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and, if caught doing so, can be fined.
Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.

CLIMATE & AVERAGE TEMPERATURES
Mexico City
Mexico City has a subtropical highland climate, characterized by mild to warm temperatures throughout the year. However, due to its high elevation of around 2,240 meters above sea level, the city experiences cooler temperatures compared to other cities at similar latitudes. The climate in Mexico City can be divided into two distinct seasons: the dry season and the rainy season. The dry season typically spans from November to April, while the rainy season lasts from May to October. During the dry season, Mexico City enjoys mild temperatures with average highs ranging from 20°C to 25°C and cooler nights with temperatures dropping to around 10°C. In contrast, the rainy season brings increased precipitation to the city. The temperatures during this season remain relatively mild, with average highs ranging from 22°C to 24°C. Regardless of the season, Mexico City experiences relatively high humidity due to its location in a valley surrounded by mountains. The humidity levels are often higher during the rainy season.

Oaxaca City
Oaxaca has a tropical savannah climate, closely bordering on a humid subtropical climate, due to its high altitude. During the dry season, temperatures during the day remain warm with an average high of 27°C in the coolest month, December, and an average high of 33°C (in April, just before the beginning of the wet season.) Although daytime temperatures are warm, night time temperatures are cool with an average low of 9°C in January. Due to its altitude of 1,555m the climate of Oaxaca is cooler than lowland areas at the same latitude.

Mérida
Mérida features a tropical wet and dry climate. The city lies in the trade wind belt close to the Tropic of Cancer, with the prevailing wind from the east. Mérida's climate is hot and its humidity is moderate to high, depending on the time of year. The average annual high temperature is 33°C, ranging from 28°C in January to 36°C in May, but temperatures often rise above 38°C in the afternoon during this time. Low temperatures range between 18°C in January to 23°C in May and June. It is most often a few degrees hotter in Mérida than in coastal areas due to its inland location and low elevation.

Visas

Mexico
For stays in Mexico for 180 days or less on an Australian Passport, you won't need a visa. But you'll need to complete a Multiple Immigration Form (FMM) and make sure your passport is stamped by Mexican immigration officials on arrival. If you fail to complete this form or to have your passport stamped upon entry into Mexico, you could be detained and deported. If you enter Mexico by air, you can either complete the FMM in advance online or on arrival. Present your completed FMM for inspection at immigration. Visa and other entry and exit conditions (such as customs and regulations) can change at short notice. Contact an Embassy or Consulate of Mexico for up-to-date information.

United States of America
An ESTA (Visa Waiver) for the USA is a strict requirement when travelling to or flying through the USA. Once a USA ESTA Visa Waiver is issued it is valid for 2 years or until your passport expires (whichever is sooner) and will allow multiple entries into the USA. For information on ESTA eligibility or to apply, please visit: https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/

Important:
• Please start arranging your visa three weeks before departure to account for any delays due to consulate operating hours.
• Visa rules may have changed since Covid-19. Some countries and airlines may require you to obtain an additional visa before arrival. Please check with the nearest embassy, consulate or immigration department of the destination you're entering.
Please note:
• Passengers who are not Australian citizens must also check with the respective consulate or visa agency to determine what their visa requirements are and what personal identification is required.
• It is also important to note that some areas of employment, such as journalism, government authorities and charity organisations, may have additional restrictions in applying for Visas. This may, in turn, affect the type of application required.
