Day 2 Adelaide - Kangaroo Island

You will be collected by a SeaLink coach from the Terrace Hotel at 6:10 and taken to the Adelaide Central bus terminal. From here your coach driver will take you on a scenic 90-minute drive of the Fleurieu Peninsula, winding you way past sheep and cattle farms and through a number of small coastal towns that populate the coastline. Watch out for dozens of kangaroos as you near Cape Jervis to join the 9:00 ferry for a 45-50 minute ferry to the small township of Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island. Due to this morning’s early start, the hotel will have a boxed breakfast ready for you.

Upon arrival at Penneshaw at approximately 10:00, you will be collected by the Sea Dragon team and will head straight out onto a full-day nature tour. Please have a day pack prepared so that upon arrival on Kangaroo Island you are ready to embark on your day tour with the following recommended items: Wide-brimmed hat, sunscreen, water bottle (1.5 litres), walking shoes, swimwear, towel and camera.

Spend the day on this small-group tour with your professional guide exploring the diverse natural attractions and wildlife of Kangaroo Island, one of Australia’s premium nature-based destinations. Enjoy short walks, a cafe lunch and close-up wildlife encounters while learning about the history and nature of this amazing island.

The first stop for the day will be Flinders Chase National Park. On the way to this famous National Park keep an eye out for Rosenberg goannas lazing in the sun and view the stunning rejuvenation of native bush species from the devastating bushfires of 2019-20. A stop at Remarkable Rocks will give you the first views of the rugged coastline in this diverse national park. The amazing rock formations and distinct red rocks are a photographer’s delight. You'll also visit other known attractions in the park such as Cape Du Couedic, Weirs Cove and Admirals Arch.

The afternoon will be spent at Seal Bay Conservation Park, home to the endangered Australian sea lion. With only an estimated 12,000 sea lions left in the world, Seal Bay is the third largest colony of this species. Walk through the striking sand dune system and along the pristine beach with your experienced guide or knowledgeable Park Ranger for approximately an hour as you learn all about these beautiful mammals. Your tour will finish up at Sea Dragon, which is a 250-acre coastal property with its own secluded beach and an array of wildlife on the property. Check into your deluxe ocean-view room and listen to the waves lapping on the beach below. This evening you will enjoy a 2-course dinner at this spectacular property.

Day 3 Kangaroo Island - Adelaide

After breakfast overlooking breathtaking ocean views, pack up your luggage as you will be heading out on a half-day 'Taste Of Kangaroo Island' tour before being dropped off at the ferry terminal in the afternoon.

Departing from Sea Dragon at 9:00, you'll start the day at Kangaroo Island Olives which is a family-owned agribusiness that introduced the Ligurian olive tree to Kangaroo Island in the early 1990s. These olives have a rich history as they have been grown for over four hundred years by the Saint Benedictine monks of the Italian Riviera. These dual-purpose olives are used for making extra virgin olive oil and table olives during the award-winning production.

Your next stop is at Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Oil Distillery, another family-owned business that's only a short distance away. This is the only commercial Eucalyptus Oil distillery in South Australia and produces 100% pure Australian Eucalyptus Essential Oil from the Kangaroo Island Narrow Leaf Mallee, along with a range of natural products available through their farm gate retail shop and craft gallery. Here you'll have morning tea and learn about the production process.

Your next stop focuses on Kangaroo Island’s remote environment which aids the success of the Ligurian bee and maintains the purity of the world’s oldest honey. Here you'll learn about the fascinating history of honey production and participate in a unique tour and tasting of a range of honey products including Ligurian Honey, honey mead, honey soft drink and honey wheat ale.

The final highlight for the day is a visit to Kangaroo Island Spirits, the oldest dedicated Gin Distillery in Australia. You'll join a guided tour of the gin and whisky distillery and beautifully landscaped gardens that are filled with the native botanicals that Kangaroo Island Spirits use. A dedicated staff member will explain the different areas of production and talk about the many herbs grown on the property and used in flavouring. Afterwards, you'll sample a gin and mixer paddle before enjoying lunch (at your own expense) in the garden. You'll also have access to discounts on the limited edition distillers' range of liqueurs and vodka as well.

After your half-day tour, you'll be dropped off at the Penneshaw ferry terminal. Here you can store your luggage and wander around the small township. Take the time to enjoy a drink and dinner at the Penneshaw Hotel or maybe even a cocktail at the Shy Wren before going back to the terminal to check in by 19:00 to catch your ferry at 19:30. Other important information

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER
Tour Guide:
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on the history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction where they are guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves it at the end of the tour; they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader:
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides at each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village and offer information on the place visited on the bus. However, they are not required to have specific art, architecture, or historical knowledge. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and, if caught doing so, can be fined.

Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.

Winters (June to September) are mild and wet, while summers (December to February) are warm and dry. It’s recommended to bring clothes that can be layered to ensure you have the option to put on or take off layers as required to be comfortable.
