Day 3 Rome, Italy

A day filled with iconic sights and delightful experiences awaits. Why not begin your adventure at the Trevi Fountain, marvelling at its grandeur and tossing a coin to ensure your return to the Eternal City. Then, perhaps immerse yourself in ancient history with a visit to the majestic Colosseum, where gladiators once battled, then ascend the Spanish Steps, taking in the picturesque views and lively atmosphere of Piazza di Spagna. And of course, no visit to Rome is complete without indulging in the creamy goodness of authentic gelato - savour one or more of the delectable flavours as Rome captivates your senses to create lasting memories.

You’ll enter the Vatican Museums before the general public for a complete guided tour of this stunning space. Enjoy the masterpieces in peace, as you follow your guide through the Belvedere Courtyard, the Gallery of Maps, the four Raphael Rooms, and more. Interestingly, your guide can point out where Raphael worked the faces of Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo into his frescoes.

Toulon sits on the sun-kissed Côte d’Azur, almost exactly between Marseille and St Tropez. From here, you can seek out chic beaches and Provençal landscapes of dry stone walls and swathes of lilac lavender.

Toulon has associations with the French Navy that can be traced back to 1494 when Charles VIII established a naval shipyard here in the embrace of its natural harbour. It is home port of the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier, discover its model and ships throughout the ages at the National Naval Museum. Find a harbour backdrop of colourful fishing boats, sleek yachts and larger vessels among the historic docks and age-old workshops of Porte de l'Arsenal.

Visit the Old Town to browse the morning markets on the Cours Lafayette, wander past spectacular fountains, and several streets back from the water, in Place Victor Hugo, you’ll find the majestic Opera House, with grand columns and statues of Tragedy and Comedy on the façade. Located off the coast of Spain, Palma de Mallorca is home to historical sites of architectural wonder, stunning natural beauty, and an eclectic mix of modern meets mediaeval.

Arrive in the turquoise waters of the port of Palma de Mallorca, a 15-minute drive or 45-minute stroll from the city, on the south side of the Island.

It’s a wonderful introduction to Mallorca, the natural bay of the port offers your first glimpses of the island’s majestic golden beaches and rippling palm trees. It’s impossible to miss the 13th-century La Seu Cathedral that dominates the city’s landscape. Only three miles from mainland Italy, Messina sits on Sicily’s northeastern tip under Mount Etna’s unerring gaze. Messina is known as "the door of Sicily" and has always been a lively trading centre.

One of Messina’s top attractions is the astronomical clock, housed in a soaring bell tower on the Piazza del Duomo. Be there for midday, and see the display of bronze mythological figures and lions.

In the early evening, sail along the Strait of Messina holding the promise of many magical encounters. Just 3 kilometres (a little shy of 2 miles) at its narrowest point, and with a naturally occurring whirlpool at its northern tip, the Strait has been linked to the Greek legend of Scylla and Charybdis; two opposing sea monsters believed to have inhabited the waters in ancient times.

CLIMATE & AVERAGE TEMPERATURES
Mediterranean
During August to October, the Mediterranean experiences warm and sunny weather. August remains hot, with temperatures ranging from 25°C to 35°C across the region, and little rainfall. September offers pleasant, slightly cooler conditions, with temperatures around 22°C to 30°C, and still minimal rainfall. October sees a gradual decline in temperature, ranging from 18°C to 26°C, with some regions experiencing occasional rain. Overall, it's a great time for beach vacations and outdoor activities, with milder weather as autumn progresses.
 
United Kingdom
In October, the UK experiences autumn weather with cooler temperatures and increased rainfall. Average temperatures range from 9°C to 15°C. Expect shorter daylight hours as the month progresses. Rainfall is common, and it's advisable to have waterproof clothing handy. Leaves on trees change colours, creating a beautiful autumnal landscape, and it's a great time for scenic walks and enjoying cosy indoor activities.

A tourist visa is a strict requirement if travelling on an Australian passport. You will be able to start your e-visa application process once you receive final travel documentation 6 weeks prior to departure.
 
United Kingdom
A tourist visa is not required for Europe for stays up to 6 months if travelling on an Australian passport.

Supplier Fees
In the event the tour package you have purchased is unable to proceed, and/or a travel Supplier is unable to fulfil the tour due to external circumstances (Limitation of Liability e.g. a Force Majeure event), there may be a fee or amount of money that is withheld by our Suppliers and is unrecoverable. This may be due to non-refundable airline tickets, cancellation penalties with cruise cabins or unrecoverable payments with our land/accommodation partners. If refunds are not available from Suppliers, we will endeavour to obtain a travel credit on the best terms available and communicate these outcomes to you. In the event we are unable to obtain a refund or travel service credit, or part thereof, this cost is passed on to the customer as a Supplier Fee.
