Stavanger is the epitome of charm: a characterful mix of ancient houses and modern architecture that offers an ever-present nod to the past. In the city’s oldest neighbourhood of Gamle Stavanger 18th Century wooden buildings still dominate the streets, while the Canning Museum (Norsk Hermetikkmuseum) and Stavanger Museum offer an enriching glimpse into Stavanger’s maritime history (entry fees may apply). Those seeking a postcard-worthy view should aim for The Guards’ Museum in Valbergtårnet (Valberg Tower) - the highest point in Gamle Stavanger - and if you’re a fan of Gothic architecture the exquisite craftsmanship of The Anglo-Norman Stavanger Cathedral will no doubt delight (charges may apply).

Eating and drinking
A port call in Stavanger offers the opportunity to indulge in native Norwegian delicacies such as locally reared elk, reindeer and venison (not included). You’ll find a choice of restaurants near the harbour and while some are open only for dinner many places offer a lunchtime service too. Seafood is first-class in Stavanger and a visit to TORJÅ fiskedisken (fish market) is an excellent opportunity to see the day’s fresh catch being sold at the source. For a low-key bite at lunchtime try a smørbrød – an open sandwich topped with meat, fish or cheese - or Koldtbord, a variety of hot and cold dishes offered for a fixed price on an ‘eat all you like’ basis (not included).

Shopping
If seeking a travel keepsake for your collections, the historic Gamle Stavanger district will see you right. Filled with small independent shops and colourful artists’ workshops, it’s the ideal place to track down a locally produced piece of art, pottery or other craft to take home. For mainstream shopping on a grander scale, Arkaden Torgterrassen, a shopping centre in central Stavanger offers around 70 stores, including many international brands. A second shopping centre, Kilden, with around 60 stores and eateries, is located around 3 kilometres away in Stavanger’s Hillevåg district. There’s also a number of boutiques around Øvre Holmegate, Stavanger’s pretty, colour-dominated, street.

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER
Tour Guide:
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on the history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction where they are guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves it at the end of the tour; they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader:
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides at each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village and offer information on the place visited on the bus. However, they are not required to have specific art, architecture, or historical knowledge. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and, if caught doing so, can be fined.

Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.

CLIMATE & AVERAGE TEMPERATURES
London
London experiences mild but variable weather in March, October, and November, with temperatures gradually shifting between spring and late autumn.
In March, temperatures range from 5°C to 10°C, with increasing sunshine and occasional light showers. It’s one of the drier months of the year.
By October, autumn is in full swing, with temperatures between 9°C and 16°C. Rainfall increases and the weather becomes more unpredictable, with a mix of crisp, sunny days and damp, overcast conditions.
In November, temperatures drop further to 5°C to 12°C, with frequent rain and shorter daylight hours. It feels noticeably colder, especially in the evenings, and occasional fog can add to the classic London atmosphere. Layers and waterproof clothing are recommended for all three months.

Norway 
Norway experiences cool to cold temperatures in March, April, October, and November, with significant regional variations between the coast and inland areas.
In March, temperatures range from -6°C to 3°C, with southern coastal areas like Oslo starting to warm up, while the north remains cold with lingering snow and icy conditions.
By April, temperatures rise to 0°C to 9°C, and spring slowly emerges in the south, though snow persists in the mountains and northern regions. Days become longer, and coastal areas see milder conditions.
In October, autumn sets in with temperatures between 1°C and 10°C. The landscape turns golden, but rain and early snowfall become common, especially in the mountains and the north.
By November, winter returns, with temperatures dropping to -3°C to 5°C. Snowfall increases, particularly in the interior and Arctic regions, while coastal areas experience cold rain and strong winds. Layers and waterproof clothing are essential for all these months.

This may be due to non-refundable airline tickets, cancellation penalties with cruise cabins or unrecoverable payments with our land/accommodation partners. If refunds are not available from Suppliers, we will endeavour to obtain a travel credit on the best terms available and communicate these outcomes to you. In the event we are unable to obtain a refund or travel service credit, or part thereof, this cost is passed on to the customer as a Supplier Fee.
