Located along Isfjord at the end of Romsdalsfjord, Åndalsnes is your first port of call. After docking in the morning in the town centre, you'll get the chance to explore this picturesque coastal town, home to about 2,000 people.
For newcomers arriving here on a cruise, it's important to know that Åndalsnes, once the administrative hub of the old municipality of Grytten from 1838 to 1964, underwent a complete reconstruction following an assault in World War II. Today, Åndalsnes has transformed into a contemporary town nestled amidst Norway's breathtaking landscapes and boasts its own local newspaper. However, the true gems of Åndalsnes are the majestic mountains that loom over the town, creating an awe-inspiring spectacle.
Overnight: Ms Trollfjord
Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner
Træna, an archipelago located on the outskirts of the Arctic Circle, rests 33 nautical miles northwest of the mainland. Comprising approximately 500 islands, islets, and skerries, only four are inhabited throughout the year. As a serene municipality, Træna is home to abundant birdlife, thriving primarily on the uninhabited isles.
Despite its size, this archipelago holds a rich history, with archaeological discoveries indicating human habitation since the Stone Age.
Immerse yourself in one of Norway's oldest fishing communities during the afternoon. With the notable presence of Sea Eagles, birdwatching becomes an unmissable activity. For an authentic experience, embrace the traditions of Norwegian fishermen and enjoy casting a line under the summer sun.
As the evening approaches and it's time to depart, take a moment to relax and unwind onboard. Continuing your journey northward, you'll cross the Arctic Circle, commemorating the occasion with a charming Norwegian ceremony.
Overnight: Ms Trollfjord
Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner
Devote an entire day to exploring Vesterålen, an archipelago just northeast of Lofoten. This group of islands holds great significance as it inspired the name of Hurtigruten's first Coastal Express ship that embarked on Norway's rugged coastline in 1893. Your port of call will be the historic town of Stokmarknes.
It was here, in 1893, that the visionary maritime pioneer Richard With established the Original Coastal Express, revolutionising coastal passenger travel and transforming Norwegian shipping. Soon, Hurtigruten became a vital lifeline for remote communities such as Svalbard, boosting their economies by facilitating exports through the ports.
Given its historical importance, Stokmarknes is the ideal location for a museum commemorating Hurtigruten's inspiring legacy. Along the waterfront, you'll discover the Hurtigruten Museum, where their retired 1956 ship, MS Finnmarken, proudly stands in a glass structure. Immerse yourself in a different era as you embark on a guided tour, exploring the vessel while encountering archives, photographs, and artefacts showcased in various interactive exhibitions.
Overnight: Ms Trollfjord
Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner
Prepare to be captivated by Tromsø, the vibrant urban Arctic hotspot of Northern Norway. With its stunning architecture, trendy restaurants, and the prestigious title of hosting the world's northernmost university, Tromsø exudes an irresistible charm. Delve into its polar history, making it an ideal pitstop before venturing north into the High Arctic.
This modern city carries a legacy that stretches back to the Ice Age, as evidenced by remarkable artefacts discovered in its vicinity. Despite initially being home to a mere 80 people, Tromsø's significance soared after being designated a "market town" or kjøpstad in 1794. It swiftly evolved into a hub for Arctic hunting in the mid-1800s, and by the close of the 19th century, Tromsø had firmly established itself as a thriving centre for Arctic trade.
As you dock in Tromsø in the morning, a world of possibilities unfolds before you, allowing an entire day to explore the historic Arctic city and its captivating surroundings.
Overnight: Ms Trollfjord
Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner
Make your way to Honningsvåg, the northernmost city on mainland Norway, around mid-morning. Despite being a young city, having earned its official status in 1996, Honningsvåg remains one of Norway's smallest cities, adding an air of uniqueness to your experience.
Honningsvåg is not just any city—it serves as the gateway to the North Cape, renowned as the "northernmost point of Europe." Brace yourself for an awe-inspiring spectacle as you stand atop the towering cliffs, 307 metres above the sea, with the North Cape Plateau just over 1,000 miles south of the geographical North Pole. Let the crashing waves against the rocks below mesmerise you as you take in the breathtaking panoramic sea views.
Don't miss the chance to capture a memorable moment at the iconic globe monument perched proudly on one of the cliffs—a perfect opportunity for an epic selfie that will leave friends and family in awe.
As you sail away from Honningsvåg, prepare to be enchanted by the dramatic vistas of the North Cape Plateau from the sea. The ship will venture further into the vast expanse of the Barents Sea, bidding farewell to the distant shores of mainland Norway and leaving them far behind, painting a picture of adventure and exploration.
Overnight: Ms Trollfjord
Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner
The southernmost island of the Svalbard archipelago, Bjørnøya, sits just past the halfway point between mainland Norway and Spitsbergen. You’ll be viewing this inaccessible land from the ship in the afternoon, so think of this as the prologue to your Svalbard adventure.
You might notice the lack of trees and bushes upon seeing the island. Very little grows here, with the land partly covered only by a layer of moss and lichen. Whatever does grow here is fertilised by the abundant birdlife that nests on the sea cliffs. Get your camera ready to capture Little Auks, Puffins, Black-legged Kittiwakes, and Northern Fulmars flying over dramatic cliff tops and steep slopes alongside many other seabird species.
Aboard the ship, you can learn about Bjørnøya’s history through polar history lectures. You might learn about the historical expeditions that led to its discovery and the subsequent claims various countries have made to the island. Discover the strategic importance of this unreachable sanctuary and the role Bjørnøya played in World War II.
Sailing on from Bjørnøya, use MS Trollfjord’s various onboard facilities to relax, such as the sauna, fitness room, or outside hot tubs. There will also be a photography workshop today to get your camera eye and lens in focus to best capture the wildlife and wilderness awaiting us in Svalbard.
Overnight: Ms Trollfjord
Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner
Today, you’ll arrive at the Svalbard archipelago and visit Spitsbergen, the largest of the three main islands. Magnificent brown and green mountains rise and ripple up from the High Arctic tundra while snow-melt rivers trickle through the valley plains, glistening under the summer sun.
Take a moment to be here, now, in Svalbard. You’re at a latitude more than 78°N and under 820 miles / 1,500 kilometres from the North Pole. The air of this Arctic desert is fresh and pure, and temperatures in summer average between zero and eight degrees Celsius, thanks to a warm northern branch of the Gulf Stream.
You’ll find Longyearbyen nestled on the banks of a sweeping, large fjord. It is the biggest settlement in Svalbard and is pegged as the world’s northernmost settlement, with a population greater than 1,000. Home to some 2,000 inhabitants worldwide, it originally emerged as a coal mining colony in 1906. Today, it is a hub for adventure travellers and scientists and engineers attached to local research projects, like the famous Global Seed Vault.
Spend some time strolling around the town, admiring its collection of galleries, pubs, restaurants, brewery, and the notable North Pole Expedition Museum.
Overnight: Ms Trollfjord
Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner
Prepare for an exhilarating journey as you depart from Longyearbyen, but be sure to rise early to witness the awe-inspiring vistas of Kongsfjord, one of the region's largest and most majestic fjords. Greeted by two towering glaciers that emit spine-tingling creaks while depositing ice into the fjord, you'll be treated to a mesmerising display of nature's grandeur.
Keep your eyes peeled along this stretch, as it offers remarkable opportunities to spot walruses leisurely basking on the shores and a diverse array of migratory birds, including charming puffins, majestic king eiders, elegant pink-footed geese, and graceful guillemots.
Venture further, and you might catch a glimpse of Arctic foxes and Svalbard reindeer gracefully roaming the land while the enigmatic white beluga whale occasionally emerges from the surrounding waters. If fortune favours you, you may even witness the spectacle of a polar bear prowling the coast in search of its prey, the bearded and ringed seals.
At the edge of the Brøgger Peninsula, nestled on the shores of Kongsfjord, lies the great town of Ny-Ålesund. Originally established as a coal mine, it has transformed into a hub for scientific exploration since the mid-20th century. During the summer, this extraordinary settlement hosts over a hundred researchers representing more than ten countries and 20 glaciology and climate institutes.
Take the opportunity to wander through one of the northernmost settlements in the world, immerse yourself in the local ambience by visiting the cosy bar and souvenir shop, or send a postcard from the small post office that will travel far and wide, sharing your extraordinary experiences with friends and family. The wonders of Ny-Ålesund await your discovery.
Overnight: Ms Trollfjord

Regrettably, the moment has arrived to bid farewell to Svalbard and the remarkable island of Spitsbergen. However, if your schedule permits, there may be an opportunity to venture on a detour as you sail southward towards mainland Norway, leading you to the enchanting Recherchefjord. Nestled south of Bellsund, this picturesque small fjord promises to be a delightful addition to your journey.
On board, the ship, use the day to relax. If skies are clear, enjoy some summer sun out on deck and keep on the lookout for whales, dolphins, and porpoises. Or, if it’s not too warm, head to the sauna for a soothing steam.
For some fascinating insights into local history and wildlife, catch a lecture delivered by the Coastal Experience Team. They may also offer a photography workshop to help sharpen your eye to capture stunning shots in the coming days.
Enjoy the sumptuous food and drinks on board, courtesy of our Norway’s Coastal Kitchen concept that features the finest, most flavoursome, local Norwegian produce. As a treat, there might be tastings of regional specialities or demonstrations by our skilled onboard chefs in the show kitchen.
You can also curl up with a good book in the lounge or chat with new-found friends in the bar while reminiscing together about your favourite experiences of the voyage so far.
Overnight: Ms Trollfjord
Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner
Prepare to be enthralled as you return to mainland Norway, embarking on an exhilarating journey that commences in Tromsø. Your first stop of the day holds historical significance as the ship unloads cargo from Svalbard while loading goods destined for ports further south.
Revisiting Tromsø after your vacation in Svalbard allows you to tread in the footsteps of explorers and sailors of the past. As these brave adventurers returned from their Arctic expeditions, they were drawn to the city's allure. The fashion and culinary delights they encountered appeared strikingly elegant and refined in contrast to the rugged frontier towns, earning Tromsø the endearing moniker of 'the Paris of the North.' Perhaps you too will be captivated by its charm and leave with a similar impression.
From Tromsø, your voyage continues southward, leading you to the enchanting and fairy-tale-like island of Senja. As one of Norway's largest islands, Senja has emerged as a rising star in Northern Norway, earning a well-deserved place among CNN's prestigious list of the world's ten most beautiful islands. Locals proudly describe it as a 'mini Norway,' for it encapsulates diverse landscapes inspired by various regions along the Norwegian coast. As you explore this remarkable destination, prepare to immerse yourself in a captivating tapestry of nature's wonders.
Overnight: Ms Trollfjord
Meals included: Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner
Get ready for an exhilarating day of exploration in the breathtaking Lofoten archipelago. Renowned as one of Norway's most awe-inspiring regions, it will leave you spellbound as you witness its rugged cliffs emerge dramatically from the glistening ocean, reaching the heavens like colossal teeth.
Immerse yourself in the charm of picturesque fishing villages, where strings of red-roofed houses perch gracefully on stilts, clinging to the edges of majestic mountainous islands. Amidst the vast blue sea and lush green mountainside, you'll encounter scattered solitary fishermen's huts known as rorbuer, their vibrant red hues adding a touch of intrigue to the serene landscape.
Life in Lofoten exudes an unrivalled tranquillity and serenity. Time seems to halt in its tracks, enchanted by the sheer magnificence of the islands. Prepare to be captivated as you step into a world of supreme peace.
At the heart of this captivating archipelago lies the vibrant town of Svolvær, which will serve as your base for most of the day. Delve into its enticing array of shops and restaurants, lose yourself in exploring its winding streets, and take the opportunity to acquaint yourself with the town's unique character and charm. The possibilities for discovery are endless in this captivating corner of Lofoten.

Prepare for a thrilling voyage as the ship ventures southward, reaching the dramatic midpoint of the Norwegian coast. Behold the awe-inspiring Helgeland Coast, a renowned stretch adorned with majestic mountains that have sparked captivating myths and local legends, adding an enchanting aura to the surroundings.
Your base will be the beautiful town of Brønnøysund, boasting a delightful marina and a Neo-Gothic stone church dating back to 1870. Immerse yourself in the town's allure. Don't miss the chance to explore the UNESCO World Heritage Centre on Gardsøy Island, where the highly coveted eiderdown is harvested from local eider ducks, with specially designed huts provided for them to build their nests.
Continuing your journey beyond Brønnøysund, you'll encounter the extraordinary Torghatten Mountain. Prepare to be captivated by the sight of a monumental hole piercing through its very heart. According to ancient legend, this hole was forged by an arrow unleashed by a scorned troll in his pursuit of a spurned lover. It is said that Torghatten Mountain itself stands as the fossilised hat of a Troll King, forever immortalised as he attempted to intercept the arrow's path.
Get ready to immerse yourself in the captivating tales and natural wonders that await along the Helgeland Coast. It's a journey filled with intrigue and dramatic landscapes that will leave you awestruck.

The ship will make a brief stop in the town of Ålesund, known for its Art Nouveau architecture and picturesque position on a peninsula below Mount Aksla. During this stop, the ship will offload any cargo here and guests joining excursions.
Near Ålesund, cutting through the peaks of the Sunnmøre Alps, some 1,700 metres high, is the magnificent Hjørundfjord. Its picture-perfect position in the Sunnmøre Alps means it is the area's hidden gem and a secret from most other ships.
Those who discover Hjørundfjord rank it as a serious contender for their favourite fjord in Norway. It's deep blue waters and verdant mountainsides seem proportionate and aligned as if sculpted deliberately by nature's artistry.
On the banks of one of Hjørundfjord's branches is the idyllic village of Urke, comprised of less than 40 residents. This is where the ship will pick up guests who had previously left the boat at Ålesund to go on an excursion.
As you swiftly approach the final day of your exhilarating voyage, a bittersweet sensation fills the air. However, what better way to honour and celebrate your extraordinary Svalbard Express experience than with a joyous farewell dinner on your last night. WHAT TO PACK FOR YOUR CRUISE :
To make packing a bit easier, Hurtigruten has drawn up a packing list. If you should forget something, don’t worry! On board all the ships you will find a shop with a wide range of clothes and practical items.
- You'll need a pair of worn-in walking boots to use outdoors, as well as some casual shoes for use onboard.
- It is much better to wear a number of thin layers than just a few thick ones. The air trapped in-between thin layers warms to your body’s temperature and acts as valuable insulation.
- Woollen sweater or fleece - this should go over your under and mid-layers.
- Wind and waterproof jacket and trousers. Outer layers should be wind and waterproof to adapt to the changing conditions on the Norwegian coast.
- If you intend to use any sauna or hot tub facilities, you will need to pack a swimsuit.
- Bring a memory card with a large capacity – there are sockets in the cabins to recharge photo equipment.
- The dress code aboard the ship is relaxed and casual and you are not expected to dress formally for meals.
- Bring a good pair of binoculars.
- A small waterproof backpack is necessary for carrying essentials.
- Please remember to bring your passport and a copy of it.
- Sun protection.
- Sunglasses with UV filter lenses.
- Lip balm with UV protection. Dry, cold wind and sun often cause chapped lips.
- Money in the correct currency. Remember, the ships also accept several credit cards.
- Remember to bring sufficient medication to last through any unforeseen delays.
CLIMATE & AVERAGE TEMPERATURES
Norway
Summer in Norway, from May to September, is the busiest time with the warmest weather, extended daylight hours, and abundant outdoor activities. The average temperature ranges from 13°-18°C, reaching 25°C - 30°C in July and August. The eastern side of the southern mountains and the south coast between Mandal and Oslo experience the most stable weather. Above the Arctic Circle, the Midnight Sun phenomenon is at its peak from mid-May to late July, providing unique views in places like Tromsø, the Lofoten Islands and the North Cape. Summer weather can be changeable, with the west coast receiving more rain, while the Atlantic Gulf Stream keeps the western fjords and coastal areas warmer than expected. The sea temperature can reach 18°C or higher, allowing for popular swimming spots. It's recommended to have waterproof clothing and remember the Norwegian saying: "There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing”.
FLIGHTS
Seat Selection & Frequent Flyer Points:
We do not arrange seat selection. It is essential to highlight that some airlines do not allow pre-selected seats. While we do not add frequent flyer member details to bookings, you can do this directly with the airline once you have your flight information.
Passport Validity:
Customers must provide valid passport details either at the time of purchase or no later than 45 days before the departure date. Failure to do so may result in the cancellation of the booking. Customers will be responsible for any costs and fees incurred in this instance.

It is not standard practice to tip on MS Trollfjord, but if you feel that certain crew members should be rewarded for providing exceptional service, there are tip boxes in the restaurant together with envelopes.
Please note: Tipping for services provided is always a matter of personal discretion; however, please be aware that many locals consider tipping part of their normal remuneration, and they may approach you for payment; there's no need to be intimidated by the request.

Please refer to our Terms and Conditions regarding shopping for further information.
A tourist visa is generally not required in Europe for stays of up to 90 days when travelling on an Australian passport.
Important:
• Please start arranging your visa three weeks before departure to account for any delays due to consulate operating hours.
• Visa rules may have changed since Covid-19. Some countries and airlines may require you to obtain an additional visa before arrival. Please check with the nearest embassy, consulate or immigration department of the destination you're entering.
Please note:
• Passengers who are not Australian citizens must also check with the respective consulate or visa agency to determine what their visa requirements are and what personal identification is required.
• It is also important to note that some areas of employment, such as journalism, government authorities and charity organisations, may have additional restrictions in applying for visas. This may, in turn, affect the type of application required.

Supplier Fees
In the event the tour package you have purchased is unable to proceed, and/or a travel Supplier is unable to fulfil the Qantas Tour due to external circumstances (Limitation of Liability e.g. a Force Majeure event), there may be a fee or amount of money that is withheld by our Suppliers and is unrecoverable. This may be due to non-refundable airline tickets, cancellation penalties with cruise cabins or unrecoverable payments with our land/accommodation partners. If refunds are not available from Suppliers, we will endeavour to obtain a travel credit on the best terms available and communicate these outcomes to you. In the event we are unable to obtain a refund or travel service credit, or part thereof, this cost is passed on to the customer as a Supplier Fee.
