The produce and culinary heritage of Norway’s coast is at the heart of your experience on board MS Trollfjord. New ports mean new suppliers to work with, new ingredients to play with and new stories to tell. The ship’s peerless menus, cocktails and food courses are inspired by them all, as well as archive menus and age-old Norwegian preservation techniques.

MS Trollfjord’s strikingly reimagined three restaurants and bar offer an exciting flavour of Norway’s past, present and future. Each one embraces traditional preservation methods that have been tried and trusted by Norwegians through 1,000 Arctic winters, such as drying, fermenting and salting. On board, you can eat dry-aged beef served by a chef with a story about the meat’s provenance, drink beer made from water sourced in Trollfjord, and learn all about the distinctly Nordic spirit aquavit.

Best of all, the journey from fjord or field to fork is short but deliciously sweet. As we sail, you’ll pass the very fjords that gave us our fish, the mountains that grew our herbs and the slopes that reared our lamb.

Main Dining Restaurant: Flora
MS Trollfjord’s main restaurant, Flora, is inspired by Norway’s edible herbs, berries, mushrooms, flowers, fruit and vegetables. This incredible treasury of produce influences every part of your dining experience here, from the herb-infused mayonnaises to the petals and scrolls of the distinctly Norwegian Rosemaling folk art design that unfurls across the restaurant’s décor.

Depending on what’s in season, you could try dishes such as lightly smoked Arctic char, plant-based Wellington with sugar kelp confit Trøndersopp from our own kelp farm, or flavoursome wild game enriched by time spent grazing on berries, herbs and flowers.

Dine at Flora for self-service breakfast, lunch buffets, and à la carte dinners. Seating is open on the day of departure, but fixed for the rest of your voyage. If you would like to change your seat, please contact the Restaurant Manager on board. Flora is also the venue for the gala dinner towards the end of your voyage.

Brasserie Árran
Brasserie Árran is Hurtigruten's way of showing our respect and gratitude to the Sámi people and everything they have done for Norway. Árran is a northern Sámi word for the fire at the heart of a lavvo (a temporary dwelling used by the Sámi people for thousands of years). It’s a place for people to gather and share stories, which is exactly what we hope you’ll do in Brasserie Árran. The restaurant decor’s use of dark wood, leather and rough-hewn stone creates a warm and rustic feel that reflects the hearty food on the menu.

Here, you can dine on traditional dishes with a modern twist such as bidos (a Sámi reindeer stew), souvas (sliced smoked reindeer meat) with lingonberry aioli, or pickled herring on rye bread with cured egg yolk.

Árran is open for lunch and dinner. Seating is open, so no reservations are required.

Specialty Dining Restaurant: Røst (Fees may apply)
Inspired by the ancient fish bank of Røst in the Lofoten Islands, this fine-dining restaurant is a homage to the produce that helped established Norway: fish. Røst’s menu is based on the flora and fauna that flourishes beneath the ship and along the coast.

Alongside the stockfish that Norway’s economy – and heritage – was built on, your dishes could include salmon or reindeer as well as more unexpected ingredients such as seaweed, kelp, Arctic pearls (a vegan roe) and sea urchins. The resident sommeliers are on hand to help pair each dish with the perfect wine.

Please Note: Suite guests can choose to dine in Røst for all meals, including a daily, Norwegian-inspired afternoon tea complete with delectable macarons, scones, cakes, and sandwiches, washed down with a glass of sparkling wine. For dinner, Suite guests must make a reservation directly at the restaurant.

Cabin guests can also upgrade to dine at Røst through the app, directly at the restaurant or through the Restaurant Manager.

1893 Bar
Your culinary experience on MS Trollfjord extends to the 1893 Bar too. Settle down in a comfortable chair behind the huge windows on the two-storey observation deck and take your pick of drinks laced with the flavours and remarkable stories of the Norwegian coast. Perhaps a Nordic-themed cocktail made with berries picked along the coast, beer brewed with water from Trollfjord, spirits distilled with glacial water, or something from the wide selection of Norwegian aquavit – including our very own. There’s no better place to watch that extraordinary scenery slip by. And it is not just about the drinks. Every day between 15:30 and 16:30, guests can enjoy an afternoon treat and tuck into a mini buffet of fresh fruit and sumptuous cakes.

Please note: Opening hours may vary due to weather, ports and activities. Guests can find updated opening hours on the daily programme onboard.

Life Onboard MS Trollfjord:
Each day’s entertainment programme is guided by a different theme based on the destination ahead.

In between ports, you can be as active as you choose. Expect expert-led food tastings and thought-provoking presentations by your Coastal Experience Team that you can watch in person or livestream from the comfort of your cabin.

Regular photography workshops reveal tips for shooting the perfect image, from capturing the Northern Lights to zooming in on polar wildlife. When you feel confident, you can hire camera equipment on board and practise what you learnt on your next onshore excursion.

But if you’d rather simply watch the astounding scenery roll by, that’s fine too. Relax in the panoramic sauna or take a seat with a glass of our exclusive aquavit next to the floor-to-ceiling windows of the bar.

Onboard currency: Norwegian Kroner (NOK)
MS Trollfjord operates a cashless system on board and accept Visa, MasterCard, and Diners Card. You can also use your cabin card on board to order snacks, drinks, meals, excursions, and guided hikes. The balance is then settled at the end of your voyage.

Other important information

TOUR GUIDE VS. TOUR LEADER
Tour Guide:
Often locals with intimate knowledge of an area, its culture, and history. Their role entails providing commentary, routing the tour, and seeing that people have a good time. They are a licensed, qualified expert who supplies specific information on the history, art, architecture and culture of the city/village/attraction where they are guiding the tour. The guide meets the group at the required place and leaves it at the end of the tour; they do not travel with the group.

Tour Leader:
An experienced person tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of tours, as well as providing practical support to passengers throughout the whole trip. Their role primarily includes assisting with accommodation, transportation between locations, and communication with tour guides at each stop. A tour leader may provide general guidance around a city or village and offer information on the place visited on the bus. However, they are not required to have specific art, architecture, or historical knowledge. They are not allowed to provide a guided tour or commentary of a city/village/attraction once there and, if caught doing so, can be fined.

Please note: Tour leaders/guides are not a standard inclusion in all travel offers. Tour leaders/guides will only be made available when required to enhance the experience of the destination featured.

CLIMATE & AVERAGE TEMPERATURES
Norway
In winter, much of Norway transforms into a snow-clad paradise. This means ideal opportunities for exciting activities in the snowy landscape. The weather and temperatures vary a lot in this long country. Along the coast temperatures usually stay around 0°C. Inland, the temperatures are usually lower and might reach -10°C to -20°C. In a few places, you can even experience a chilling -40°C!

Winter nights are long in all of Norway, and from the middle of November until the end of January, the sun doesn’t rise at all in parts of Northern Norway. However, the northern lights might dance above your head. They are most commonly seen in the north, but can on rare occasions be spotted all over Norway. October to March are the best months if you want to see this magical light show. In southern Norway, you can expect between six and eight hours of daylight during the winter months. You should also pack breathable, waterproof and windproof clothing, no matter the season. Sturdy shoes are key for shore excursions and hiking.

What to Pack:
Winter (Wrap Up Warm)
It can get very cold along the coast during winter, so we recommend you pack base and mid layers, as well as a thick winter jacket, wool or fleece hat, balaclava/buff, gloves, woolly jumper, scarf, winter boots, and pull-on spikes (for sale on board). And remember the layer principle: it is much better to wear a number of thin layers than just a few thick ones. In very cold weather, it’s a good idea to wear two pairs of gloves – one thick pair of mitts (mitts don’t separate the fingers so they keep your hands warmer) and a thin pair of gloves underneath that allow you the use of your fingers. If you’re prone to cold extremities, you might also want to buy some carbon hand and foot warmers, which are available from most good outdoor shops.

Spring (Cover All Bases)
As you are likely to encounter three seasons during one sailing in spring, it’s important to pack well and layer up. We advise bringing a woollen jumper, warm socks, a thick scarf, winter boots, warm, waterproof trousers and jacket, a hat and gloves.

Autumn (Lots Of Layers)
While the sun may be shining, you can also expect cooler weather during the autumn months. Make sure to pack thin layers and some warm clothes – a woolly jumper, wind and waterproof jacket and trousers, a hat, gloves and light hiking boots.

FLIGHTS
Seat Selection & Frequent Flyer Points:
We do not arrange seat selection. It is essential to highlight that some airlines do not allow pre-selected seats. We strongly suggest you contact the airline directly with seating allocation requirements and/or arrive at the airport earlier to arrange your seating. While we do not add frequent flyer member details to bookings, you can do this directly with the airline once you have your flight information.

Passport Validity:
Customers must provide valid passport details either at the time of purchase or no later than 45 days before the departure date. Failure to do so may result in the cancellation of the booking. Customers will be responsible for any costs and fees incurred in this instance.

CRUISE
Embarkation / Disembarkation:
• Check in on embarkation day opens at 12:00 and closes at 17:00.

• Itineraries are subject to change at any time without notice.

Please note: Strict Covid-19 terms may also apply regarding proof of insurance covering Covid-19 and/or vaccination. Please refer to the cruise lines’ terms and conditions for further information before boarding.

Please note: The ship cannot wait for late passengers. If you miss your ship, you will need to arrange transport by yourself and at your own expense to the next port on the schedule.

You will be responsible for your own luggage and have the ability to board all modes of transport without assistance. Please note: Many areas may be inaccessible to wheelchairs or mobility scooters, where the unassisted use of personal walking sticks and other aids may be required. Although some assistance may be available, every traveller should be self-reliant during all aspects of their travel.

Please note: It is expected that every traveller be self-reliant and able to undertake all aspects of their own travel. Please speak to your booking agent about your personal circumstances and any assistance requirements to ensure this tour is right for you.
